Essential Job Functions:
This position is a critical part of our product development lab, and will be responsible for the development of injection molding conditions for new highly filled compounds for both in-house testing and customer applications; hands-on execution of molding projects that require such development.
Essential functions and responsibilities include:
Provide injection molding expertise during the product development process.
Provide mold tooling design expertise as needed to develop new or modify existing tooling to enable new testing capabilities or enable new materials to mold satisfactorily.
Work with product developers to define and optimize molding conditions for new products and product platforms using designed experiments and Six Sigma methodologies.
Translate optimized molding conditions for new products into written standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the local product development labs and provide support.
Translate optimized molding conditions for new product into written standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Manufacturing Quality Control and provide support.
Support external/customer molding trials if needed, and act as a resource for customers and other SABIC team members.
Evaluate alternative conversion processes beyond injection molding and interface with Global Application Technology team.
Providing molding training/support to local lab technicians and develop/maintain training materials.
Evaluate and implement new molding technologies.
Own capital expenditure projects for identifying, specifying and purchasing new molding equipment, ancillary equipment and tooling.
This position requires excellent communication and project management skills to execute and meet milestones. This position requires superior organizational skills; handling multiple tasks and different protocols, coordinating samples, compiling data after testing, accurate and timely record keeping to recommend directions for further laboratory effort. This position requires good understanding of polymer materials science & engineering, good computer skills, an ability to apply scientific methodologies, troubleshooting/problem solving capability, and accountability. The position also requires operating safely within policies, procedures and regulations, participation and leading of SABICs internal safety & health management systems (SHEMS), ISO audits and OSHA programs.
Working effectively with minimal supervision, the individual should be able to perform a variety of non-standard tasks, design and execute experiments, and execute molding requests through SABIC systems. Independently maintain complete and accurate records of all work. The individual must work well within a team matrix, display interactions and follow up with co-workers. The individual must effectively schedule and perform accurate work, make competent experimental observations, simultaneously perform various tests, and conduct all work in safe and responsible manner. Ability to lift 50 lbs. on occasion will be required. This position may require work hours flexibility.
SABIC Internal T&I Employees at grades 10-11 will be considered for this job. If T&I employee is selected for the role he/she will maintain his/her current grade and will be assigned work commensurate with their current grade.
External Hires and Non T&I SABIC employees will be placed on the SABIC Technical Career Ladder depending on experience level, degree and proven technical knowledge; and will be assigned work commensurate with that grade.
Requirements Position Requirements:
BS/BA degree in polymers or materials science or engineering; chemical engineering; mechanical engineering; or related major. Alternatively, a High school diploma or GED equivalent and at least 5 years of relevant hands on applied industrial experience in an injection molding environment.
Expertise in injection molding processes, equipment and tooling
Hands-on experience setting up and operating injection molding machines
Knowledge of mold design with ability to identify and correct mold design issues impacting the performance and appearance of molded parts
Demonstrated ability to identify and evaluate new molding technology
Excellent math skills including algebra
Demonstrated excellent organization skills and record keeping
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
Work overtime as required
Proficient in use of personal computer and Microsoft business/technical and Excel basics software
Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally
Willing to travel 10% (potentially up to 20%) time to other SABIC sites globally or to external vendors and customers

Desired Skill Desired Qualities:

2-3 Years of additional applied industrial experience, beyond the position requirements is preferable.
Experience with design of experiments & statistical analysis
