Job Purpose & Responsibilities

  • Perform extrusion, molding and associated color formulation development activities that will support new product introduction, color technology developments, manufacturing support, and customer issue resolution.

  • Train with a senior color technician to learn and eventually become proficient in formulating color packages in various engineering thermoplastic resins. Use Color formulation software and visual evaluation techniques in order to properly adjust formulations to match colors.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance and calibrations on assigned instruments in the color laboratory. Will require understanding of critical quality parameters, ability to investigate and resolve customer related quality issues.

  • Use laboratory information management system (LIMS) to obtain work instructions and enter test results. Use of manufacturing data systems (i.e. SAP, LABSOFT) to obtain formulations and other colorant related information.

  • Enter requests and submit material/samples. Compile and present reports from testing data.

  • Review and understand ASTM and ISO standards as they apply to testing performed in the laboratory.

  • Assist in the management and continuous improvement of quality processes and compliance to industry standards. This will include, but is not limited to, updating standard operating procedures related to assigned tasks and coordinating SPC, round robin, and proficiency testing.

  • Assist in the identification and implementation of projects to improve lab efficiency and/or install new equipment. Work closely with vendors to develop scope and drive projects for new equipment installations.

  • Initiate discussions with product developers and other requesters when further clarification is needed before extruding/molding/testing or to fully communicate results.

  • Fully participate in lab safety and housekeeping duties.

Requirements Eligibility Requirements:

  • Bachelor's level degree in a STEM field

  • Ability to pass color matching test - visual acuity (Munsell 100 Hue Test)

Desired Skill Knowledge of color and plastics compounding.

Excellent computer skills (Proficiency with MS Word/Excel, etc.)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal and external interface.

Attention to detail and organized approach to work.

Ability to work independently as well as demonstrated teamwork skills.
