Job Purpose & Responsibilities This position is a multi-craft mechanic responsible for the repair and maintenance of all equipment that supports manufacturing activity necessary for thermoplastic compounding at SABICs Columbus, IN plant. The mechanic also supports equipment that relates to the operation of the site, including: working on capital projects, working on installation of controls, as well as, troubleshooting control systems for plant processes and structural fabrication of parts that are of a noncritical nature.This position is also responsible for routine floor service calls, responding to equipment breakdowns, completion of planned and emergency work and carrying out the plant's preventative maintenance program. All functions should be performed with excellent safety practices and proper use of protective equipment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Utilize Maintenance Management System to respond to plant issues with little direction from supervision.
-Adapt to changing technology as plant processes become more automated and networked.
-Interface with vendors and use technical manuals and search engines to resolve equipment issues and obtain parts information.
Perform basic equipment rebuilds including: bearing replacements, drive chains, belts and sprockets, precision part assemblies, motor/gearbox alignment and gear replacements
Perform plumbing work such as silver-solder, tin solder, and thread and layout schedule 40 and 80 black pipe.
Proficient in welding, including arc-welding, using Oxyacetylene (brazing and cutting).
Perform electrical work such as troubleshooting 120 volt relay logic, dealing with basic electronic problems relating to DC and AC drives and K-tron feed systems, and use a lap top to troubleshoot PLC software problem.

Solid knowledge of EHSS processes and practices
Good computer skills a must, with familiarity of Windows operating system.
Excellent troubleshooting techniques
Excellent electronics skills
Proficient in interpreting electrical prints and PLC logic
The individual needs to be flexible with good interpersonal skills, be dedicated to efficiency, and able to readily accept change. This position requires a self-motivated person that is able to perform at a technical level with minimal supervision. The normal work hours for this position are 7 PM 7:30 AM. Overtime may be required at times.
Knowledge of thermoplastic compounding
Vocational School and/or and Associates degree in a related field, preferred.
